SnackDown 2016

A Glimpse of CodeChef SnackDown 2016:

SnackDown 2016 witnessed programmers coming under one roof from 92 countries with the aim to win one title and with that a hefty cash prize of USD 22,500 and more. The contest had four qualifier rounds after which 52 finalists flew down to mumbai for the onsite finale. In an attempt to broaden the programming avenues in India, SnackDown 2016 kept 1 slot each reserved for a school team and for an all girls team, given that they finish in top 100 in the elimination round. Some of the most celebrated names of the competitive programming world took part in the competition.

The finale, which was held on 9th July,2016 witnessed top 52 teams from high schools, colleges and corporate organizations, participate in a five-hour long onsite programming battle at Directiplex, Mumbai at the end of which Borys Minaiev and Gennady Korotkevich of ITMO University, Saint Petersburg, Russia claimed the champions title winning a cash award of $10,000. The first runners up title was grabbed by llya Zban and Belonogov Ivan also from ITMO University, Saint Petersburg, Russia. The second runner up slot was claimed by Ken Sugimori and Kohji Liu from University of Tokyo, Japan winning $5000 and $3000 respectively. The best team from India was from IIT Indore featuring Aditya Shah and Utkarsh Saxena who won $2000. Arash Mahmoudian Bidgoli hailing from Atomic Energy High School, Iran went on to emerge as the Best School Team, winning a cash award of $500. Among Indian schools, Rajat De and Sidhant Bansal of Delhi Public School, Dwarka led the table also being the third best Indian team in the competition.

To promote the culture of competitive programming in India, we have also organised a three-day intensive programming camp at our headquarters post the SnackDown 206 onsite finals - a first of its kind in India. Bridging the gap between programmers from India and the rest of the world while promoting the zeal of competitive programming amongst the programmers around the globe, SnackDown makes its every edition bigger and better.
