National Institute of Technology Surat - CodeCon

Welcome everyone. Codecon is on. It is the Codechef chapter of NIT Surat.

From Wednesday, we begin our Art of Programming Series, where we will try to teach you how to participate in programming contests like ICPC, CodeChef, Topcoder etc We will be discussing various problems from different sites, including but not limited to, CodeChef, Topcoder, UVa, USACO etc.

We suggest you create an account at USACO (www.usaco.org) and Codechef. Brush up your C or Python Skills before coming to the event.

And for people who want to know what books to refer, here is a list

1. Introduction to Algorithms (Cormen, Leiserson, Rivest, Stein)
2. Art of Programming (Donald Knuth, All volumes)
3. Art of Programming Contests ((http://online-judge.uva.es/p/Art_of_Programming_Contest_SE_for_uva.pdf)
4. Hitchiker's Guide to Programming Contests (http://paul.rutgers.edu/~xiaomin/icpc.ps)

While the books may look imposing, you wont get very far if you don't read those.

Also you may start solving problem right now at www.usaco.org. It has a nice graded approach taking you from easy to complex problem with supplementary reading material. Its a must do.

We will be using C, C++ and Python for solving problem. A knowledge of any of these is must. We highly recommend Python.

Location: Computer Engineering Department, SVNIT
Time: 5:30 PM
