Programming and Informatics Summer Camps
Dates: May-June 2018
Locations: IIIT Delhi, ABV-IIITM Gwalior
Summary:
In summer 2018, CodeChef conducted two-week long summer workshops on programming and informatics for school students of Delhi NCR and Gwalior. A total of 128 school students from grades 6-12 participated in the workshops. Workshops were structured around algorithmic problem solving and programming using Python language. The students came from both public and private schools and had little to no prior experience in programming.
The instructors for these workshops were college students of Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT Delhi) and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior (ABV IIITM Gwalior). These instructors were provided training on pedagogy and classroom behavior management by workshop managers who were also Teach for India Fellows and had experience in formal instruction.
By the end of the workshop, the participants were able to solve beginner level problems on CodeChef’s platform and implement Python codes for the same.
These workshops were conducted in the campuses of IIIT Delhi and ABV-IIITM Gwalior. The institutions were generous to provide CodeChef with the required infrastructure and support for the workshops.
CodeChef is thankful to the Directors of these institutions for being proactive and supporting us in our aim of getting school students started with programming at a younger age to become better problem solvers.
